1990年代，陕北某地。雨住的父亲生前是个兽医，临终前接生的一头驴崽叫“驴嘎”。父亲死后，雨住对它精心饲养，以寄托对父亲的思念。平日里跟小伙伴玩，宁肯让人骑自己也不让骑驴，久而久之，人们都叫雨住为驴嘎。一天，村里来了摄制组，演员小海特想骑毛驴，却不小心摔伤了脚。制片方为不影响拍摄进度，请形象差不多的雨住当小海替身，并付给他一份酬劳，雨住很是高兴，把这钱送给了生病的妈妈。根据剧情需要，戏中日本鬼子要杀掉小毛驴，导演看到雨住对毛驴的特殊感情，采用特技处理了这场戏。剧组要离村了，小海抱着雨住久久不想分开……。A quick glimpse at the cast for this film would make any horror fan giddy with glee.
